"While sometimes imperfect, most adult platforms already have strict moderation and consent documentation policies in place, or have improved on existing practices. Non-adult sites, like Facebook and Instagram, report much higher numbers of abusive material than adult sites, but aren't held up to the same scrutiny as sites that host adult content.

"Discrimination against sex workers by banks and payment processors has a long history, and is made worse by groups that push institutions to comply with religious agendas under the guise of anti-trafficking efforts."

If you expect (groups of) people to be disposable, you're not going to respect their concerns in the first place. We're seeing that "logic" here, aren't we?

No. Not as you mean it.

They're not doing this because they think sex workers are disposable per se. There is nothing MasterCard – and all the payment processors and all the banks – would love so much as to be able to take everyone's money indiscriminately.

This is the work of the Feds. The US Federal government has been extorting financial institutions into discriminating against sex workers for almost a decade now. Nobody knows why. It's called Operation Choke Point.

It's amazing, but as much as i try to keep up, they keep hitting new lows.

Note: that Vice story is over 6 years old. Any link to more current coverage?

Their excuses keep changing. In the documentary "Graphic Sexual Horror" the excuse to shut down the financial services of a hardcore SM pornographer was "funding terrorism", an accusation that has never made it as far as criminal charges and seems to be pretty ludicrous on the face of it.

So I don't actually believe this was ever a well intentioned mistake.
