"The culture war literature from the '90s and '00s involved lot of predictions that feminism and gay rights would usher in an era of uniform, genderless androgyny. Now, in 2021, the same writers are mad about the sheer variety of gender expressions they see around them." -- Becca Lewis ([twitter.com profile] beccalew), 2021-12-02

*looks around*

I don't see why these "critics" should be in such a rage, no matter what happens. I get to not be bored, which is an important thing to me. Not being bored by the people around me is vital for good mental health.

It's pithy, but the underlying thrust of that group's position is that gender should work in this one set way, and that position hasn't changed. (not that I agree with said position.)

That position is weird and incomprehensible to me. We're a species of over 5000 languages and umpteen thousand cultures, but gender should only work one way? Have they met humans? (Don't we wish they didn't interact with the rest of us?)

Yeah, I know. It's ridiculous. Wish people were a little better at living and letting live.
