"I've droned on endlessly about how you can't expect normal people to use the command line. That's what Alexa is. If you don't say the precise invocation correctly, you get an error.

"And because there's no display, you have to remember dozens of different commands. It's too hard"

Lol yeah. Except command-lines are less error-prone: with voice commands not only do you have to get it right but it has to _realize_ that you got it right. An insurmountable obstacle for some of us.

And I can alias, tab-complete or up-arrow to 90% of my commands...

I am now picturing me shouting TAAAAB at the voice control. (Normally what I picture me shouting at the voice control is "Eleven!")

OK...
is there some site that ranks these things?

Descending order --
1. Star Trek
2. Zork

There's the computer in "Fail Safe"... and "Colossus" and "Terminator"

Where do we place HAL (2001) in the list?
I think at #2... but HAL might try to kill you.... oh... same as the other three i've mentioned

[Sorry, Dave... I can't let you do that.]

I dunno, I feel like the computer in Star Trek (at least TNG) f***ed up enough times that this is pretty much what we're getting.

At least a computer command line doesn't depend on voice recognition. Java's phone can't recognize me when I try to talk to it, it knows his voice and speaking style and no other is recognized. Which is useful because I can say certain key words without worrying. Now, if he needs to voice command his phone when he has had dental work, I doubt it will work.
