"My therapist just said 'kids are very resilient' and I said 'why do all adults need therapy then?' And she just looked into the middle distance for a bit + seemed to reassess quite a lot of things" -- Amy Mason ([twitter.com profile] AmyCMason), 2022-03-01

I started going to therapy in my teens. Had to stop when I aged out of my parents' coverage, and restarted when I found free, non-medicated options just after Trump was (s)elected in the States.

Another in the many cases of people not saying what they're trying to say.
'kids are very resilient'
This actually means: "kids survive crap", but that doesn't address anything much besides the physical survival.
PTSD, phobias and many other things happen to the kids, but since kids aren't very valued to "society" in the large sense of that term, children mental health issues don't get attention to the degree they need to be.
It's a lucky kid who has those near to them that give the attention necessary and have the skills necessary to offer.

Fun Fact: a lot of the kids who "survived" grow up and become a therapist. (I'm not making that up!)
