"the replies in there being like 'in the 90s i didn't know anyone questioning their gender'
"... yes. because in the 90s, those words and experiences were actively hidden from us. i probably would have, if i had the language."

"i spent the 90s convinced that i was not trans, just a pervert. i spent the 90s believing in AGP. i spent the 90s convinced people like me were destined to be serial killers.
"if i had even one goddamn positive model, i would have been able to transition at 18, instead of 41."

The context for "the replies in there" is this reaction to a tweet & article arguing against hormone therapy for trans people even after the age of legal majority: "holy shit I've never seen the overton window shift this fast. last week it's trans kids, now it's 18-25 year olds that are too irresponsible to transition. this is not some random person; this is a former board member of WPATH, which sets standards of trans peoples' care." -- victoria scott (mikurubaeahina), 2022-03-24

Criminy! Augh!
(And I so hate the "well I don't know/didn't know someone who was X" formulation. Use your imaginations, folks. You probably did, they just didn't tell you because it was their business not ours. I admit to once or twice responding to "but I don't think rape happens as much as people say, I don't know anyone who was raped" with a bitter "yes you do" and letting them figure it out.)
