I thought that part of the problem is the immunity in the nasal/throat area was not as robust as the blood immunity which is why people would shed it through the nose even without symptoms. This combined with people being told it is OK to go back out in public 10 days after testing positive (I know 2 people who tested positive on day 12/13 after the 1st positive) AND people being told that if you have had it, you will continue to test positive falsly so don't bother to test.
