This mindset is eerily similar to that of the people (who seem to be mostly teens, but I don't want to unfairly single teens out) who dogpile comments on social media that someone they don't like should do the universe a favor and kill themselves -- and in too many cases (even one would be too many) accomplish exactly that.

I wonder to what extent these impulses have the same roots.
