"As a kid I played soccer. I loved it, but couldn't understand why, around second grade, suddenly the boys were getting good and we girls were still shitty.

"Then, 8th grade, witnessed a boys practice. They did drills. They did practice shots, passes, steals, etc

"They would like up, with 3 or 4 balls each, and kick and kick and kick, practicing specific motions.

"They would practice calling shots. Calling passes. Outside pass, inside pass, that thing where you scoop it using one foot onto the other, hop with a twist, and kick it backwards

"Do you know what 100% of all our practices were?

"Running laps to lose weight, and scrimmaging.

"We would spent 1/2 hr just running laps, not allowed water bc 'water makes you weak'.

"Then we were given a snack, and spent the next 20-30 mins 'scrimmaging' aka having a fake match

"In professional sports, the number one difference in male vs female performance is their access to training.

"Rich people have kids better at sports bc they hire pros, start early, and invest in gaining skill.

"It's not about strength. Not even weight lifting."

That reminds me of material in _The Frailty Myth_, a book about women and sports-- it turns out that "throwing like a girl" means throwing like an untrained person.

The implication is that if a boy "throws like a girl" he must be taught how to throw immediately, and if a girl "throws like a girl", well what did you expect?

Calls this to mind:
Bruce Lee
"I am not afraid of a person who knows 10000 kicks. But I am afraid of a person who knows one kick but practices it for 10000 times."

Repetition training matters. Always. So does the rest of this.

And yet, somehow the US women's soccer team quite possibly has more World Cup wins than the men's team has appearances beyond group play. Whose team has the better players? ;-)

You don't play soccer by yourself, do you? You play against another team.

So we don't actually know which team has better players.
