Interestingly, after I started compiling this (in dribs and drabs between doing other things), browngirl posted something similar as "link sausage", crediting almeda (who popped up on my "friends of" list about the same time) for the name. (Yes, this has been accumulating in a 'vi' session for that long.) So I copied a couple of their links here in case any of my readers aren't already reading those two...
