I should be asleep but I'm not. I thought I was about to fall asleep six hours ago, but I didn't. I finally broke down and cooked up a plate of eggs & potatoes to make use of the tryptophan+carbs effect. Going to head back to bed Real Soon Now.

I knew snow was coming soonish, but hadn't looked out the window for a couple of hours ... then I glanced at the window and noticed that the sky was the colour of streetlights and nearly as bright, and sure enough that meant it was snowing. And there was already an inch on the fire escape next door by then. Waited for the 11 o'clock news and they said the magic words, "snow emergency", in the first three minutes, so I put on some clothes and went to move the car off of Lombard St.

Since then, plows have gone up Fulton Ave. at least three times, but Lombard looks like it maybe got one swipe at the very start of the storm and is now pretty smoothly blanketed. Ahh, but if I didn't move my car, then they would decide to get around to Lombard St. after all, and give me a ticket I can't afford. Since I moved my car, they're not going to bother any of the cars still parked there. (Worse yet, I betcha that even if a snow emergency had not been declared, they'd write me a ticket for not obeying the street cleaning parking restrictions if I left my car there, even though we all know they're not going to have street-sweeping machines out there this day.

Sure is pretty, in any case. Coming down impressively, illuminated in the air as it falls past the streetlight.

Mood:: 'sleepy' sleepy

Is it the eggs or the potatoes or both that have a lot of tryptophan?

The eggs have the tryptophan, but the potatoes intensify the effect enough for me to notice it.

I was half-hoping it would snow more, but then I don't have to drive. It took long enough to extract Kor's car this morning.

What is the tryptophan+carbs effect good for?

I could've dealt with a litte more snow, as long as it didn't get deep enough to be really difficult to dig my car out (as it was, I was able to power out of my parking space w/o digging, though I did have to shovel the sidewalk). A shallow coat of snow changes the way the world looks one way, a deep snowfall changes it another.

The tryptophan is to make me sleepy; eating carbs at the same time is supposed to magnify the effect, but so far I've only noticed that with potatoes, not with toast. It worked, and I finally slept.
