Where Are We Living?

Any chance I can move back to the United States? I'm not sure what country this is that has all the same place-names and landscapes, but it doesn't seem to be the country I thought I knew:

"NEW YORK (Reuters) - A lawyer was arrested late Monday and charged with trespassing at a public mall in the state of New York after refusing to take off a T-shirt advocating peace that he had just purchased at the mall. [...]"

was all they could talk about on npr on our ride home. It seemed to be realy helping there fund drive. It did not hurt this was ny public radio (which we get in Vt).
