You know, you could tell someone what you wanted recorded, maybe? Or is this part of learning how to ask for help?

I tried to watch Buffy. I can't do it. Sorry. As the Scotsman said:

'Tis a guid thing we dinna all laike the same things, or therrrre'd be a wurrrld wide shortage of haggis!

I guess it does tie into the learning to ask people for help thing. And possibly related to that, there's the matter of trusting myself to know what "level of asking favours" different friendships are on, and what counts as a reasonable request and what doesn't.

I mean, "Help me move" or, "I'm in danger of being evicted, please help me clean," are pretty obviously a Big Enough Deal that it makes sense to cast a wide net looking for help. "My VCR screwed up and I missed last night's episode of this show I want to watch -- does anyone have a copy they can lend me," seems like something to ask a smaller group, but since it's in the "if you already have this and it's no trouble" category, asking it is less scary. But, "I carelessly let my supply of blank tapes run out, could you tape this for me?" or, "Gee, I only have two VCRs and want to tape three shows tonight," seem like ... imposing on folks. Obviously, there are friends who'd cheerfully tape stuff for me in those situations if they had a spare tape and a VCR not already busy, but it moves into the "Glenn has trouble asking" range then. "There's a show on cable I'd like to see but I don't have cable," is an in-between case.

Not a rhetorical question: does that make the way my mind works make sense, or just illustrate how little sense it makes?
