Christos Anesti! Christ is risen!

(Okay, I need to look up how to put Greek characters into a web page / LJ entry. so I can spell that correctly instead of transliterating it.)

Happy Easter to all the folks who celebrate it. (Okay, the ones who celebrate it today. I get to say it again a week from now for everyone using the Orthodox calendar.) I know Christmas gets a lot more attention in my culture, but Easter seems so much more important in terms of its religious significance. Everybody has a birthday, after all ...

Kor was asking me why the shops etc. don't seem to be paying as much attention to Easter as they do to Christmas, seeing as how Easter is the holiday that's got much more significance in terms of the faith. I had to think only half a second---"It's not a gift-giving holiday." Hence, not merchandized.

I think I like it better that way.

Christos voskrese! [Christ is risen!]
Vostinnu voskrese! [Indeed He is risen!]

I was baptized Greek Catholic (Byzantine Rite), and raised in a Roman Catholic parish. We went to my father's church for Easter Vigil Mass every year. Mass was always offered in Old Church Slavonic.
