Colonizers never stop to think about how colonists actually feel about it; personally, even if you cloak it in nice language about "freedom" and "democracy," it's still the White Man's Burden for the 21st Century. So, no, it's not even a "nice idea," and that's not even getting into the point that for this US administration (as with many others), the point isn't to "bring freedom and democracy" internationally (that's just the nice words they hide behind), it's about protecting US economic and political interests abroad. (Any number of US-sponsored dictatorships give the lie to the rationale that the US actually cares about international freedom, democracy, or even the rule of law.)
