Given who said it, you should definitely be nervous.

(Not sure whether you two have met in real life or not...)

Science is the human genome project, Happy Birthday Louise Brown, a perfectly good beer, particle board, polyester, epoxy, the sprouting of seeds, the bruise that happens when I hit my knee, and the way it mends (well, partly science). Science is the porcelain bowl of cooked rice on the formica counter next to the stainless steel sink that has hot and cold running water.

I'm trying to figure out what isn't science and where art and magic might pick up the slack.

The only difference I've noticed between science and magic is the existence of life. They overlap, yes, but once something's dead, umm, it's dead. Science can't confer life, merely support life's wish to understand itself and how to use other forms of life to make its own existence easier. Or at least that's near as I've gotten to words for it so far.
I've got to see a dog about a haircut.

A better explanation of your definition of science would help me understand better whether this is an argument or an agreement.
I'd still like to know what this quote actually refers to. Context is often helpful.

I'm doing this fast and will probably chew the ideas over at my own pace, once there's more to work with. Thanks for making me try to define science.

In this context I'm guessing that Badmagic meant something in between the "1950s B horror movie" idea of "science" and the "1950s gee isn't progress wonderful" idea of it, whichever of those two you find more frightening. ;-) If I'm lucky, we'll get a reponse saying how close I am.

I'm still waiting for my own personal rocket belt.
