I got this from [livejournal.com profile] jducoeur (here) who got it from [livejournal.com profile] alienor who got it from someone named Lucia

1) What was it that first drew you to the SCA? By this I mean, what was the thing that you read, saw, heard about the SCA that made you want to get involved?

I was already sort of interested in medeival stuff because, with my last name, an interest in King Arthur was inevitable. Near the end of high school, I discovered Dungeons and Dragons. Then one Sunday morning during the "we're going to be serious, responsible broadcasters and air talk stuff even though we're an album-rock station" hour, I heard an interview with the king and queen of Atlantia, describing what the SCA was. I was fascinated and made a mental note to try to learn more, but I wasn't quick enough to get the contact phone numbers. (Note that the WWW wasn't invented for another decade or so.) In college, some friends started doing live-action role-playing out on the cross-country track, but it was more improvised fantasy stuff involving imagined monsters than anything like the SCA. By the time a friend (later girlfriend) who had gone to a different school wrote that she had fallen in with this really interesting group that I recognized the name of, I was so ready to get involved.

2) What was the first step you took as a newcomer to get involved in the SCA?

Attending fighter practice with the aforementioned girlfriend (she fought, I watched) and meeting the household she joined when she came back to the East Coast; then attending a couple of feasts. (Gee, and nowadays Pennsic is nearly the only activity I make it to...)

3) Who was the most influential person in your decision to join the SCA?

The aforementioned girlfriend, whom I've unfortunately lost touch with in the years since. (Hey, Cunnian, say hello if you see this.)

See a bunch of y'all at War. Look for me with Caer Edgemere in E15. (Our usual spot is the last camp before the trees, on the right, as you walk downhill on Brewer's Road. Across the street from Mountain Confederation.)

What's your SCA name?

Arthur d'Glenn, but most of the folks in my camp will know me equally well as "Glenn", "D'Glenn", "Arthur", or "Arthur d'Glenn".

Someday I should get around to picking a more authentic (and interesting) name, but I keep not getting around to deciding on one, so I've been using the one that my second college roommate came up with for me on one of our fantasy trips to the cross-country track. (I should follow your example...)

Well, the "what" wasn't a what, it was a who. And I didn't want to get involved until I was already involved. Some friends of mine nearly literally dragged me to an SCA event, over my loud protestations.

2) What was the first step you took as a newcomer to get involved in the SCA?

I didn't take any step; it was peer pressure.

The only reason I stayed was because they were right, and I really DID have fun.

3) Who was the most influential person in your decision to join the SCA?

Emily Holbert, aka Emer. :) It's ALL HER FAULT!!

Interrobang, to be found under the Soviet Canuckistan flag at House of Three Roses, E13, Pennsic!

Oh cool! I remember Cunnian. At one point, she was a
squire to Sir Strykar, as I recall, right? She was a
good fighter, and a really nice person. I hope she's
doing well.

Come in from Curry Rd. as if you are first checking in. Turn right at troll.

Go to the top of Horde Hill. Keep going.

Go to the bottom of Horde Hill. Stop at the treeline.

Turn right before the treeline.

Should be a couple of large white carport tents for the common area.

Anna doesn't have a merchant booth this year (she's on a waiting list), so people are more likely to be hanging out in camp (instead of up in the merchant area).
