I have to disagree about cats not caring whether one loves or hates them. My cat picked me the same way Perrine picked D'Glenn. He follows me around, sleeps on or with me. He comes when called. Reliably. Since he was a stray, too, and the estimates as to his age varied wildly, he could be over 10. He's always been a big soggy love pile though. He still can get worked up for play sometimes and annoy the heck out Erica. She's definitely 10. She doesn't care whether you love her or hate her. So I think it's an individual cat thing whether they care. Kinda like people.
