Regarding the presidential proclamation designating this week "Marriage Protection Week", [profile] vyoma wrote: "Well, that convinced me. I'm going to spend all week protecting marriages. I think the best way to do this is to round up as many married couples as possible and encase them in lucite."

Have I mentioned just how little my religious/legal construct needs to be protected? Have I mentioned just how little I *care* who participates in that religious/legal construct?

*feH*

If anything, barring my lesbian and gay friends, and my bi friends involved with same-sex partners, from marriage _hurts_ my marriage, by making it a source of guilt and shame to me that I have what my friends cannot.

Gee, Mr. President, if you really want to protect marriages, you could start with those no-fault divorce laws... or even with a Federal law providing mandatory garnishment of child support payments after a marriage or relationship fails.

(Yes, I'm aware that child support orders aren't always fair. But automatic enforcement of them would make it harder for parties to walk away from a marriage without consequences...)

No, keep the no fault divorce laws in place -- unless you want the murder rate to climb.
