If "*plonk*" is the "sound" of someone falling into your killfile, is there a similar sound for a post getting tossed into your quotes file (qotd queue, randomized .signature file, fortunes database, favourite quotes mailing list, quote collection on the web, whatever)?

I've seen "yoink" used that way enough to adopt the phrase myself.

"Snagged" is the word I usually use.

I hear it as something resembling "ding", but "ding" isn't quite it and I can't quite say what is.

Mine just generally trot off and leave me 'laine. I do have that pink piece of paper on the back o'th'loo that says "DON'T FORGET TO HOLD IT 'TIL IT "THUPPS". ie. The water must go down all the way, and the valve makes a certain noise when the lever is let go to make sure that the flange under the floor in my bathroom doesn't overflow into my Best Beloved's bathroom wall.

Silly, but bulldog clips are cheap and functional. And our luck with replacement parts has been pathetic. It doesn't take much to make a broken system like this work, so I do it. Just hold it 'til it all goes down and wait 'til it "THUPPS" when you let it go. This isn't complicated.

And then there are cats that think I owe them something, and wind, rain, and such. Computers are the ugliest, though. When my Best Beloved's goes down at night it's such a blessing. Then there's sound of a fish tank overflowing. Even running water launches me.

Hi. May I use that quote about "If 'plonk' is the sound. . . ." in my quotes file? The quotes pop up in my e-mail sig (attributed, of course) when I turn on a bit in my signature file.
I'd also like to steal the bit about the pasta looking like a rope that just had a bad break-up with the scissors. . . except I'd morph it into the description of a lady's hair. That one would go into a story I'm writing. You'd get mentioned in the acknowledgements, if it ever became part of a publication.
How do you feel about that?! Hope it's not a 'bad' feeling. . . . let me know.

Certainly not a bad feeling -- I'm pleased to have come up with something .sig-worthy, and appreciate the attribution! Similarly for the rope/scissors similie. (I'm not even sure exactly what corner of my brain that one popped out of -- I wasn't trying for that particular sort of clever, but the words fell out of my fingers onto the screen and I liked the way they landed.)

Out of curiosity, how'd you stumble across my journal? Something like friendsfriends, a link, or something more random? (I took a look at yours, and all the references to DFW reminded me of the five semesters I spent in Irving, and got me trying to remember which suburbs were where relative to each other. Oddly enough, one memory that jumped out more than others is the monster-huge music store in Dallas (or maybe just closer to Dallas than to Irving) where a friend bought his electric violin and inflicted Paganini sheet music (for guitar) on me.)
