Bloody Hell. I just sliced my right index finger. Deep. As in, "Wow, you can go that deep and still be in the skin?" deep. Little ow, big EWWW, hurried "oh fuck it's gonna bleed a lot in about ten seconds, followed by, "don'tbleedonthechocolatedon'tbleedonthechocolate" and "where's the nearest tube of Crazy Glue?". (Except that it was bleeding too heavily for the glue to work -- the blood kept making holes to push through before the glue could dry -- so I had to put pressure on it for a while before I could seal it. But I wanted my other hand available for other things, so I did my old paper-towel-and-rubber-band trick for maintaining pressure.)

I don't usually Crazy-Glue my wounds, but this was one of those "flap of flesh" cuts, shallow angle and all that; and I do not want to be worrying about bumping that flap. All the big "ow"s will be while it heals.

Could be worse. Could've been my fretting hand, or it could've been closer to the fingertip. (It's on the side of my finger, between the last and next-to-last knuckle. I hope I don't brush that area against the strings when I strum ... I don't think I do, but I've been surprised before when parts are more sensitive than usual. But I'm a little scared to try a rasgueado, 'cause if I do hit that part of my finger without noticing it usually, that'll probably be when. And I'm also nervous about closing my hand very far, for fear of tearing the glue. Ugh. I feel all squicky. I hate seeing a flap of my own skin like that.

It was one of those "cuts through everything" knives that they advertise by showing it cut through an aluminum can and then a tomato. I was using the big-teeth side of it as a saw. I had my fingers quite safe from the possibility that it would suddenly advance more quickly than expected, but instead it jumped funny and got my finger that had been behind the blade. It looks like the kind of blade that would tear instead of slice, but no, it sliced. (Hey, less pain for the same amount of damage that way, eh? Could've been worse.) And I did manage to keep blood and chocolate separate.

Still ... ow. F'ing ow.

Hmm. Sharp knives while sleepy, okay; saw-like knives while sleepy, badness. Gotta remember that. And next time be patient enough to thaw the chocolate a bit... Uh huh.

OW!

There's this story of Kor, wine, and woodcarving knives, but I'll let him tell it. Ask him when you next see him.

Next time microwave on half heat for 30 or 15 seconds. Good recovery to you.

When I see you I'll show you where I tried to cut my finger off. I was trying to put dishes away that were in the dishwasher and sliced my finger on a very sharp knife. Thankfully I was living with a nurse at the time. I still have the scare but at least I didn't need stiches.
