Bedtime conversation:

"Standard bunny question -- do you eat the feet first so they can't run away, the whole head first so they can't scream, or the ears first just to be mean?"

"Oh, the ears first, to be mean. But I've never really thought of chocolate bunnies as bunnies, they're just these representations..."

"But they have little candy eyes! That makes them seem to have souls!"

"Oh, if they have candy eyes, I eat those first to remove that problem."

...

"So what do you eat first?"

"Usually the ears, but not always."

"Not the eyes?"

"On no, I want them to see me coming!"

Later:

"Hollow bunnies and solid bunnies are different species."

Quotes inexact because we had to wake up enough to grab the computer...

a coworker of mine has a great cartoon taped to his monitor. it shows two chocolate rabbits, one with the ears bitten off, one with a bit bite taken out of the butt and haunch.

rabbit with bite in the butt: "my butt hurts!"
rabbit with bitten off ears: "WHAT?"

it's incredibly stupid, but it makes me laugh. often.

So would milk/dark/white chocolate be like different breeds?

I've seen that missing butt/ears cartoon too. Love it.

Found only half the cartoon -- http://www.ahajokes.com/cartoon/easter.jpg

For the record, I tend to eat the ears first, and then work up from the bottom towards the head, leaving the icky candy eyes for last. But I haven't had a choco-bunny for years. I don't consider white chocolate chocolate, and I don't like milk chocolate enough to justify the calories. So make mine dark, or don't bother.

"I don't consider white chocolate chocolate"

According to this page (http://www.fabulousfoods.com/school/csingred/chocolate.html), you are correct technically as well as aesthetically. (I like a little white chocolate once in a while but agree that it's Not Chocolate.)

I'm an ears first kinda gal. And the candy eyes are yucky.

I just can't bite parts off something with a soul, or the appearance of one. Never mind that its demise is its raison d'etre (sort of like a goldfish, mouse, or Acheta domesticus, usually) from the day of molding, why make it worse?

Eating the yucky eyes to dispatch its soul is merely a civil obligation. _Then_ you can eat the ears, flank, or whole head if it's small enough.

I really can't imagine how white chocolate even got lumped into the order Chocolata, much less a member of the same species as the ones containing cocoa. And milk to dark? A Netherland Dwarf to a French Lop or Flemish Giant. Comma's got something there.

A taxonomic thesis nibbles the edges of my underslept mind.

Okay, white chocolate has the same oil as chocolate, so maybe it can rightfully claim the same order, push for Family, but it's definitely not the same Genus.
