I personally went for years without writing a cheque to withdraw money from my bank. It just never occured to me that you'd write a cheque to get money for yourself, cuz cheques are for giving money to *other* people. As far as getting new cheques is concerned, I think it only took eight days last timr I needed new checks (I thought I'd lost my fanny pack (american usage of the word!) and closed my account and opened a new one). YMMV my bank was 1st Virginia/ now BB&T
