Here's one I'm interested if folks' reactions to and opinions on: "These days, status conflicts are driven less by economic fears than by threats to the masculine mystique." -- Richard Goldstein.

Was there ever a time when the status conflicts were not driven by threats to the masculine mystique?

Is he saying this is truer now than in the past? I don't see it, but I have no male ego to defend, and I do have economic fears.

What is the male mystique, the ability to lie, cheat, and steal without remorse and making it look justified.

Having pondered it, I do believe that over the years I have run into a few men with a mystique, at least for me. Mostly I find them plain. Well, not you. Your mystique is all your own, charmer.

And we both know I prefer men short and geeky, musicians, and dancers. So that part of the story confused me. No mystique in men who look comfortable in suits and wear them like armor. I just wanna know their policies.

I thought about the need for the Republicans to keep trying to scare us and keep us scared long ago, but never could set words to it. I just went >blink<. So that's why they keep voting for them.

An article well worth wading through, even if you don't know what the Democratic candidates look like. Or care. They can't get any uglier than what we've got.
