"When a fish commits suicide, does it jump onto a bridge?"

No... it goes to a pet store.

No, they get caught out of their river or farm pond, frightened, shipped, maybe sedated, maybe not, possibly chilled or overheated, exposed to pathogenic bacteria or protozoal parasites, possibly oxygen deprived,_THEN_they get to the pet shops, where, if they're lucky, someone experienced and interested can help. Some pet shops are ignorant and/or uncaring. Maybe most. But not all. And idiot minions are great for leaving the lids off of tanks so the fish can jump. (stories omitted)

Please condemn not all of those who try to bring joyful beasties into other's lives with eye to appropriateness. Fish included.

Forgive my defensiveness. Most pet stores are awful. By my standards. They're impossibly high. But I wouldn't put it past a crazed fish to jump onto a bridge, now that I think of them.
