Those figures are scary. Admittedly, I'm a dilettantte in photography, too, and have done no colour slide work at all. The fastest I've ever gone on BW was ISO/ASA 6400. If I recall, I was pushing some ISO/ASA 800 Kodak film. Tri-X? Possibly. And while I had the regular process down pat, on that occasion I was actually nervous and followed the ticking of the clock in manic concentration.
It worked. The tonal range was close to excellent, and the grain was -- at least for my enlargements -- unobtrusive.
