That's weird, because I had a UPS sticker tonight, too, and I wasn't expecting a package, either. Hmmm.
As to when to give in to temptation---it's a hard question, both in dieting and in financial things. In financial things, if you have a finite amount of cash and are not in the "use credit cards" camp, you are probably safer in giving in to temptation---"safer" in that you will pay for it with deprivation later. (Lunch out equals five other meals of only bread and cheese or equivalent each, for instance, if I stick to my average <$1 per meal regime).
And I think, both in dieting and in financial things, that if you don't give in to temptation now and then, depression becomes much harder to stave off. By giving in to temptation, I don't mean a full carton of ice cream or buying a new computer. I mean a scoop of ice cream or lunch out.
In between -- a "check card". So I'm not racking up debt, but I need to be careful to leave enough to pay bills with. But I agree about having to give a little bit to stave off depression.

Curious synchronicity re: UPS.
