Got this from [livejournal.com profile] renefrost, but a bunch of other folks on my friends list have also done it in the time it's taken me to get around to it.

"So, say you were meeting a new person--blind date, new friend, who knows. And you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words. Instead, you have to give them a box, with a dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. What would you put in the box? And a copy of your journal or a link to your LJ would be the same thing as just telling them directly, yourself, so that's not allowed."

Hmm. As with so many other things, a lot depends on who I feel like I am that day. But here's a first attempt. Ask me next week and I may have different answers.

  1. Something I've made out of brass. Maybe a Cyprus pin, but probably my transgender-pride earring.
  2. A photo of The Homespun Ceilidh Band performing on an outdoor stage.
  3. An 8x10 print of "Autumn in Faerie".
  4. A guitar. I'm having a bit of difficulty deciding which one. (Probably the Strat-copy. But possibly the Yamaha six-string folk guitar. Or maybe a guitar earring instead.)
  5. Can I get away with something with my words on it if it's sheet music? A copy of the sheet music for "All Come Free". I need to get around to transcribing the melody anyhow (the guitar part is already written down).
  6. A Pennsic site medalion.
  7. A wooden square pyramid a few inches tall, made by my old friend Maxx, whom I've lost track of.
  8. A package of halloumi.
  9. A copy of The Beatles (the "White Album"), though I might substitute Revolver at the last minute. In either case I'm tempted to specify LP, though I suppose if I want the person to actually listen then it ought to be a CD.
  10. A copy of Red Shift, by Alan Garner.
  11. A copy of Le Roi de Couer on VHS or DVD (subtitled, not dubbed, if I can get it that way).
  12. A small green button with a white cross on it.

It's interesting to see how many periods of my life get left out so that I can put others in. I was tempted to put Perrine in the box. (Let her charm whomever for me.) And for some reason I keep feeling like I should put a mandolin in the box, but I can't decide what to take out to make room for it.

And a later addition to the meme: "What one thing would you add to the box to represent me or my tastes?"

[Edit a few minutes after proofreading: Looking back over the list, I just realized that whoever tries to get a feel for who I am by looking at the contents of the box is still going to be surprised when they meet me and see how I dress. Hmm...]

I add a sequinned and hand-beaded full-length backless ballgown. Probably in gold, with your coloring.

Or just a black pump.
(shoe, that is)

The light-blue prom dress might be a better choice.

Or, better yet, the battered every-day denim skirt.

No, [livejournal.com profile] dglenn and I had a long conversation about glitz and sequins.
