Well I didn't set out with that plan in mind, but when I started reaching for the tunes that were going through my head they've all been ones my fingers know really well on guitar so far, and that's been the quickest path to picking them out (not shortest path, perhaps, but faster for me than trying to properly do them "by ear" (which I'm not good at in general), and certainly faster than trying to find the sheet music for the ones I have paper for, fixing the print server so I can print the ones I only have in PDF, or writing down the one that hasn't been transcribed yet). At some point some books will drift up to the third floor, but at least for a little while, goofing off tunes are mostly going to be ones I already know on another instrument, or improvisations.
I can't complain about how quickly I'm progressing considering how little time I've put into it so far. But I'm still a ways from being able to play anything I'd want someone else to hear.
