Don't tell anyone anything that could compromise your cause. Especially in a place as peculiar as Ohio before such a bigoted judge.

Well, if he hadn't gotten his name changed, that probably would've raised questions too ... So maybe the lesson is, "Spread the potentially trouble-causing details around so they're not all in one place for someone to put together"? (E.g., don't go to the same magistrate for the name change and the marriage license.)
