As expected, yesterday was mostly about resting up from Saturday. Unsurprisingly (though I'd hoped otherwise), so was today. And I'm even further behind on reading LiveJournal.

I'm running out of RAM on one machine, so I figured I'd try to get through some of the browser windows I opened "to get back to later" ... more than a month ago. I read a few of [livejournal.com profile] limyaael's entries, and noticed the same effect as the last time I did so: I wind up simultaneously having an intense desire to sit down and write fantasy stories, and an intense fear of doing so badly. But perhaps it's time to revisit an idea I had back in ... 1980, give or take a couple of years? Wow, that was on the back burner longer than I'd meant it to be.

How often do television shows that appear to have "jumped the shark" manage to jump back? Does it ever happen?

The next thing I need to look up: to what extent can I use Unicode with Linux command-line tools, and what tricks do I need? (I'll fire up Google after I've closed more of these windows, or search from a different machine.)

Not sure, but perhaps Jump the Shark may offer some clues?

Your magic Google keyword of the day is: locale. You want to support a Unicode locale.

Ah!

Oh.

Looks like I need an upgrade to something with a later version of glibc (my main Linux box is running Mandrake 6) to do what I want to do.

Well, it'd been on my to-do list for a while anyhow ...

Thanks for the Clue.
