Gotta love a radio station that follows "Rock Lobster" with "Purple People Eater".

Which station is that?

My guess is WHFS. They're traditionally been the "punk" station, which
explains Rock Lobster. And they are wacky enough to play Purple
People Eater, although that isn't normally what they play.

I haven't listened to WHFS since "alternative" became the new mainstream and WHFS became (nearly) indistinguishable from dc101 and 98-Rock; just before a whole bunch of the old-days WHFS crew jumped ship for WRNR (which seems to be sort of what WHFS was back when it was still somewhere inside DC and I couldn't tune it in worth a damn).

Has WHFS returned to sounding WHFS-like these days? That'd be good news if it has. I've got a button left on my car radio.

I never really listened to them religiously, and even my occasional
listening was done in the days when the Weasel was one of their DJs
(sometime in the 80's, I think).

These days, I listen to 98 Rock (although I hate a lot of the new rock
that sounds more like rap), WGMS, WAMU (certain programs, like "Thistle
And Shamrock", "The Big Broadcast" which is old radio shows, etc.), WETA
(for certain other shows, like "Car Talk", "Prairie Home Companion", etc.),
and WTOP (when I need a traffic report NOW! to decide which of
several routes to take to and from the office).

WTMD (89.7(??) FM. I'll check the next time I get in my car, which has a convenient digital display for the tuner). Towson University. Nearly as eclectic as WRNR (not as wide a range, but similar feel in some ways; subtract the more mainstreamish end of WRNR's range, and add some syndicated PRI music shows).

You can probably get it in Crofton. Reception starts getting spotty at US1/I95 or nearly to UMCP depending on weather, and just after I get on the Clara Barton Pkwy when I head to Arlington. Haven't tried seeing how far south it goes in the Crofton/Bowie direction, but if it reaches I495 at the Potomac, it should reach Crofton.

WTMD has a 'listen live' link. So, if you have the bandwidth, you can get it anywhere.

But I usually forget about them when picking a station. They do kewl stuff (except when there's a Towson game of course :)
