Maybe it's time for a bunch of musicians to get together to purchase the franchise of a rest stop. Or one of those newfangled truckstops, with the SuperKwikEMart and WhiteRestaurantWithBlackLetteringAndThinRedStripes -- and convert the latter into a real pub, with 24/7 jam sessions.

Best to buy somewhere along the big routes, then; midwest, or middle Atlantic, d'you think?

On a highway rest stop, an earthy-crunchy coffee shop would be a much easier sell than a pub. 24/7 jam sessions would fit such a scenario just as reasonably, too.

Nancy Lebovitz here:

Glenn, thanks for the quote.

I've wondered how to get from the present culture to one with pick-up bands at rest stops, and I like the idea of starting small.

I wonder whether rest stops currently have rules against just playing music on their grounds.
