Interesting, Fred was just told that Maug couldn't perform as the list was closed. 3LF needs more musicians quite desperately. I am wondering why the same offer was not made to Maug via Fred.
I told Fred that as of right now we don't have any slots open, which we don't. I also said that we wouldn't know until the night of the event if we had any dropouts, so we couldn't expand the headcount to include Maug unless either a slot opened up or he was willing to pay the entry fee. My telling Glenn this is much the same, that we don't currently have slots open, and we won't find out if we do until the night of. Glenn and I spoke about why he wasn't putting himself on the list a few months ago, and then asked me earlier this week if I could keep an eye out for one, before I found out Maug even had an interest, and I had promised him I'd keep an eye out in the off chance that there might be an opening. We don't anticipate having many (if any) drop out, since we don't do ticket refunds, and those who have dropped out already have sold their tickets to others. The only way another performer can be added is if someone drops out so late they cannot get their ticket to someone else. Hence, I cannot guarantee any kind of spot being available (as stated above), and in fact, the likelihood of one being available is slim. I told Glenn on Tuesday that we probably wouldn't, but I'd keep an eye out for him.
Effectively, Glenn "asked first". Yes, the headcount/list is closed as of right now, and remains that way unless someone drops out, which is unlikely at this stage. Glenn was given the odds of a ticket opening up when I spoke to him on Tuesday. The odds of two opening up are even smaller. Hence, not even giving Maug a "we might", because it will more than likely be a "we won't".
Trust me, I want another musician there as well... Being that Glenn and Maug are both musicians, and Glenn asked first, I told him that we MIGHT have an opening, if someone dropped out. But I cannot even make a slim promise about a second opening when it's unlikely that there will be one, hence my reply to Fred.
When I found out how late 3LF is scheduled to perform, I mentioned that I didn't know what time of day my other gig was, nor where it was, and considered the possibility that perhaps I could manage both. (And at that point I hadn't seen Maug's news about the CD and his sudden availability -- he didn't post that until the next day.)
It turns out that my gig is also rather late (9:00-11:00) and is all the way down in Southern Maryland. If a slot does open up, Maug should get the phone call.
huh?
