I think they must mean the terrifying HFStival. Also, it is a small state but: everyone I have ever known in MD is familiar with HFS. Ya know? (Not that it's a good thing. I too prefer 89.7.)

"Formal wear" is a ball cap, a flannel shirt and Timberlands. Different part of the state, but I know what they're talking about.

Ah. Yeah, everyone below a certain age seems to know what HFS is (and once upon a time they really were that cool). Didn't realize HFStival was something people were that into, only knew it was big (and some years sounded interesting, though I've never gone).
