"Every Mad Scientist needs a Mom" -- [livejournal.com profile] src, 2004-03-07

As much as I love the sound-bite/bumper-sticker distillation above, I'm going to include the supporting context as well:

I need a wife/keeper/administrative assistant/personal coach or something. I *so* want to throw myself into so many things, but bitter past experience has taught me that the infrastructure always crumbles if I don't pay attention to it. Physical filth accrues in the living environment, bills pile up and remain unpaid, various obligations go unheralded and unremembered (holidays, birthdays, anniversaries), and I end up flat on my back and/or out of my head due to poor nutrition, overcaffeination, and lack of sleep. My diabetic, 100-pounds heavier than in my 20's body can't take that anymore. Every Mad Scientist needs a Mom, and alas, I'm more the Mom to my spousal psuedo-Mad Scientist than vice versa. Maybe someday I'll win the lottery and can fund a fulltime Gal/Guy Friday. I've thought of just implementing one. Isn't the first task of any truly good Mad Scientist to build a loyal, if stupid, assistant?

True. Did you know, in Greek mythology, Haephestus, when crippled, builds two robots to help him? The mad-scientist-builds-help thing goes waaaaayyy back.

Golem, golem, golem, I made him out of clay
And when he's dry and ready, my Golem I will play

Teehee!
