I'm not familiar with that particular song, but in general, when *I* sing a song, I generally try my damndest to make it sound *exactly* like the artist who first sang the song to me made it sound. (I usually fail in that attempt, but I really do try.) That includes, of course, pronouncing words exactly the way the original singer pronounced them.
