My sleep schedule is all scrozzled. Yesterday kind of evaporated (I guess I was still recovering from Saturday). Today I don't feel great, but hey, I'm conscious and think I know what day it is. [Checks date. *Whew*, it really is Tuesday. Wait, what week?! Oops.] But that's not what I logged on to say.

Sometime this morning or afternoon (I mentioned the screwed up sleep cycle, right?) I had a dream ... in which I was trying to tell someone about the dream I had a few nights ago.

And yes, I really did dream the first dream, not just dream that I'd dreamt it in the second dream. It's one of the ones I took notes for that turned out to be illegible when I woke up more fully and thought about posting it here.

In the dream I'd been house-shopping, driving around the countryside meeting people and looking at houses. On the way home, I saw a rather large house set way back from the road, but right up near the road and a ways from the driveway was pentuple piano. One very long instrument with a wavy shape facing me (like five grand pianos lined up edge to edge, except that it was one solid piece) and a Very Long Keyboard on the other side, apparently designed for a piano ensemble to play all at once. (Another detail that struck out was that it was light coloured; I think it was made with a fine-grained, blond wood, with a clear or translucent finish so that if you looked realy close you could see the grain, and from a distance you got a subliminal "sense of woodness" instead of the solid, opaque, polished paint/lacquer finish I'm used to seeing on pianos black or white.)

I decided I had to stop and take a photograph, and when I got the car stopped, having passed the penta-piano while braking, I saw that seven or eight people were sitting on the long piano bench, facing away from the keyboard, holding a variety of instruments (including several recorders and at least one rebec), and there was a director in front of them. [livejournal.com profile] syntonic_comma turned out to be among them, as well as a couple of other familiar faces (but I'm having trouble remembering who ... [livejournal.com profile] cellio, I think, and [livejournal.com profile] gorgeousgary, and one of the members of The Homespun Ceilidh Band, plus people I didn't know), and I remarked that it was a shame I didn't have a guitar with me. But suddenly in, that way dream-facts shift, I did have my recorders in the trunk of my car, and I was being encouraged to pull out the bass recorder and join in. For some reason it seemed as though everybody with a recorder had traded part of their recorder with someone else, with white head joints on dark middle joints and so on. While I was assembling my recorder, my guitar appeared in the trunk.

Alas, I can't remember whom I was describing the first dream to in the second dream.

That has to be one of the coolest instruments ever. I like your musical subconscious.

Have you seen _The Five Thousand Fingers of Doctor T_? It's Dr. Suess' only live action movie and it includes a very long piano.

Good movie! And yes, that's a much longer piano.

I was amazed by the sets in that movie. They were surprisingly successful at presenting the distinctly Suessian visual style in the construction.
