From the Quotation of the day mailing list, 2004-04-30:

Wine is strong,
the King is stronger,
women are strongest,
but TRUTH conquers all.

-- translation of an inscription in the Rosslyn Chapel (near Edinburgh, Scotland). The original reads "FORTE EST VINUM, FORTIOR EST REX, FORTIORES SUNT MULIERES: SUPER OMNIA VINCIT VERITAS" and is taken from Chapter 3 of Esdras in the Apocrypha.

Of course. Truth, beauty, order, justice, and physics rock. Not that I know physics. I just know whom to ask about it. And I know the queen rules, except in the case of Henry VIII, who sired Elizabeth I much to his distress. Humour fits in there, too.

What do you like? D'G's statement or mine? I'm confused. I thought the runes were true. I elaborated. Fluff. But I'm trying to learn to write. I am true. Or trying to get there.

I just like the way it's phrased.

Rosslyn chapel is strange in other respects, too.
