Because I'm procrastinating on stuff I feel almost well enough to do, a meme not only copied from several of my friends, but based on guesswork about my friends:

A book you own that no one on your friends list does: With all the bibliophiles I know, uh, sure. Can I use a volume of sheet music? 'Cause otherwise I'll have to resort to the operator manual for a card-sorter that my dad used to program before I was born, and it's in a box in the basement which makes it hard to go look up the model number. (It was programmed by means of a patch-panel -- you connected different pairs of sockets with wires to make it do different things. When I brought home the manuals and said, "Look what I found!", he stared in horror and asked, "Where did you get those, and more importantly, why?") Or maybe the manual for SOAP -- no, not the recent-ish web protocol; one of the first assembly languages in the 1950s. Yeah, I had to play the retrocomputing card, 'cause the next safest guess is Witchcraft, Magic, and Alchemy by Grillot de Givry and I'd be surprised if at least three friends didn't own that, and goodness knows there'll be plenty of overlap when it comes to the literary works.

A CD you own that no one on your friends list does: This should be difficult without substituting an LP instead, for the same reason as the video question below (I'm not sure, but I think at least one of my LJ friends even has copies of my brother's band's CDs), but I'm in luck: I think it's pretty unlikely anyone on my friends list (unless one of the cryptic userids who hasn't let me know who they are yet is a surprise) will have copies of In Nomine Domini or Ad Gloriam Dei by Collegium Cantorum. [livejournal.com profile] dmk could but I don't think she does.

A DVD/VHS tape you own that no one on your friends list does: Hah! Riiiight. With my friends' diverse tastes? I betcha four or five folks own copies of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Uh, anybody else got a copy of Beginning Rock Drums?

A place you've been that no one on your friends list has been: Is it cheating to mention a place I was too young to remember visiting? I don't think anyone on my friends list has been to Cyprus (though I know a couple of readers who don't have their own LJ accounts have been there). 'Cause if I can't get away with that, this seems difficult 'cause I've got so many friends, they come from different periods of my life, and the ones I only know through LJ have such varied backgrounds ... I can't use any place connected to high school or college, none of the military bases or the Pentagon seem like safe bets, I can't remember the name of the place in Nova Scotia where I first rowed a rowboat, and somehow I bet the small Ethiopian restaurant I went to in Portland, Oregon will turn out to be somebody's favourite spot. (The name of the restaurant? Oh please. Guess. You only get two tries.) But maybe I'll get lucky with the yacht club on Gibson Island, Maryland [edit: nope, forgot to take [livejournal.com profile] fidhle into account when I thought of that]. Argh! Clutching at straws here ... the offices of Johns Hopkins University Press? (Watch, it'll turn out [livejournal.com profile] misia has been there ...) A dorm room at St. Johns College (Annapolis)? the Associates dining room at the Smithsonian? Dykeman, NY (no, no, I know LJ friends have been there) ... Okay, it's a long shot but I don't recall anyone having mentioned Madison, WI recently ...

The problem isn't that I don't own obscure works, nor that I have exactly the same tastes as all my friends; it's that I and most of my friends have such broad tastes and interests, and I've got such a broad assortment of friends, that even the obscure stuff overlaps. Lots of answers come to mind if the questions are changed to "... that very few people on your friends list have".

I've been to Madison, this time of year in 1992. My ex and I were there so he could interview for a job at Circle Press; we participated in a ritual Circle Farm held in Madison, at a building that had been a synogogue.

I've been to Madison as well.
It isn't a very long drive and when I was married it was where B-i-L lived.

I have weird CDs. Bat Mitzvah prep from Temple Anshe Sholom; Pajama Sam, Math & Reading Blaster.......massive obscure kid stuff.
Same on books........I have an annoying text on Brief Therapy that irks me every time I see it. My dad has some horrid "erotica" around here....I write far better but not for him :)

Never been to Madison.

I did, however, snag the meme and stuck it on my own LJ where it's making the rounds.
