Yesterday afternoon when I heard Bush give his speech, I noticed that he thanked Karl Rove. And I immediately thought, "I don't want a society where someone thanks Karl Rove; I want a society where people are ashamed to have been associated with him, where they're embarrassed about having needed his help to win."

Since our society does not currently have that kind of moral compass, it made sense that Bush thanked Rove. But it still bugged me.

It seemed to me also that he was mostly talking to his base and making a few noises about unity at the end mainly cuz they'd write something in the paper if he didn't. I also noticed that he and Cheney used carefully selected words like "broad mandate" and "the most voters" to imply that they had more than a thin majority of supporters.

the boyfriend, who believes that Bush might not be great for the US, or the World, but his economic policies have been good for Canada (our dollar is stronger than it has been in 30 years, because your president is tanking your economy) said, when I mentioned my distaste for Karl Rove, "You know, I don't think I've heard anyone, on either side, say anything positive about him. Even the right wingers who aren't willing to dis him merely avoid discussing him at all."

I can't quite get on-side with Bush's policies being good for Canada in terms of the strength of the dollar, since the CDN$ still sucks relative to the pound sterling or the Euro, but the US$ has just decreased in value relative to everything, so the only gains we've actually seen have been only relative to the US$, which isn't necessarily great for Canada's economy, either, especially in sectors that depend on exchange rate advantages to up their competitiveness.

And then there are all the trade wars still going on (softwood lumber, Canadian beef, anyone?) -- for all that the Bushites talk about being big free traders and all that "magic of the marketplace" bullshit, PHFFFT!

I figure that Bush's policies, now that he's term-limited and seems to think that 51% equals a Mandate, are going to wind up tanking the Canadian economy, strong CDN$ at this point or no. I give it 12-24 months, unless of course our government dissolves, and Stephen Fucking Harper appoints himself President-for-Life or something, in which case, I give it 6 months, and that's only accounting for inertia.

I confess that I didn't immediately recognize the name, but a quick Googlesearch fixed that. I think I'm going to go unpack my security blanket and stuffies.

Uggh...you just named He-who-makes-my skin-crawl.
Please don't say "Ashcroft" any time soon. I just ate.

If it's any comfort, rumour has it that Ashcroft will be submitting his resignation Real Soon Now.

Y'think maybe they'll take the drapes of the statue of Justice?

George Washington wouldn't have wanted anything to do with anyone in this cabinet, I think.

In case no one's noticed, they find Justice indecent. I'm just so grossed out.

Actually, they've sent Lady Liberty home to clean, bake, and take care the of the kids. Where she 'belongs,' ya know?
They're letting her wear the sandals for now. Looks close enough to barefoot. For now.

And Justice -- she's blind and not on Social Security Disability payments. She gets to keep her job as a reminder to all those supposedly disabled lazy-asses out there.

I'm reminded of the librarians of my youth who drew diapers/loincloths in library books to cover the "naughty bits."

/bitterness.....well, maybe not quite yet.........

I found a book called "What People Wore" in my third grade. Breasts and codpieces and all that jazz. Hennins, bustles; it was enlightening. I found it again when I was 30, and have a copy.

I quit the school paper over the stupid teacher editing a cupid out of a drawing I made.(only his little baby butt showed) without telling me. I was pissed because he compromised my composition. And yes, my resignation was a scathing condemnation. It went in my file. And no, I was neither embarassed nor proud.

I'm being proud for you.
Ask your mom: was she proud of you? I'd be *darn* proud if H did that; she tends to suck it up and walk away.

The same teacher taught my Mom Chinese. Her experience with him was better than mine. In a busload of teenagers he said "What it mean" "Get stoned?"

But Mom raised me to fight city hall, and I did. Eh.

What I love is that the Justice Department Building in DC has a barbed wire fence around it. I am both horrified and amused every time I see it.

I did not know this. Eeek! But not surprised. I shall avoid my goevernment as much as possible. They don't know the difference between a patriot and a terrorist. I'm just gonna hum "America the Beautiful" and fantasise our move to Canada. Neh?

Well, there's nothing in that song that is specific to the United States. It could be applied to all of North America. Or South America. And there's a lot in that song that the U.S. hasn't lived up to....
