Jeepers, that was a long nap! I slept a whole MONTH! (My apologies to anyone who missed me at Darkover). It seems like just yesterday, or maybe at most a week ago, that it was Hallowe'en, but here it is almost Christmas already, and I've completely missed Thanksgiving! Stores already have Christmas decorations out and I'm hearing ads for Christmas albums on the television, and I don't see a lick of Thanksgiving-themed stuff, but I haven't figured out how I slept that long without having to get up to go to the bathroom even once. Also odd, my computers seem to have glitched, 'cause their clocks all say it's still early November, but that cannot be: obviously I've missed Thanksgiving somehow and slid right into the Christmas season. I know they can't have just done away with Thanksgiving without my hearing about it, because the day after Thanksgiving ("Black Friday") is so very important to merchants.

Somebody tell me what date it is so I can reset the clocks on my computers. All I know is that it must be December by now, based on what I see around me. Bit of a warm spell for December though.

Well, damn. I thought the Christmas season had started sometime in late-September from all the stuff that started going up around here. Now I don't know what to think.

You're still off by 19 years and 11 months, RvW.

Oh, right. That shiny red, green, gold, and silver deal. When you eat Chinese food. A month after the brown and cranberry tryptophan deal. Which comes after the orange and black and candy holiday.

I'm still trying to deal with the election. Will celebrate solstice.

*Snerk!* You eat Chinese food on Sparkly December Retail Festival Day, too??

You're a JEW!

Just make sure it isn't shrimp in lobster sauce....

*wandering back to packing/tossing out junk land 'sigh'*

Doesn't everyone eat Chinese on Christmas if they don't have some sort of tyrannical family stuff going on? I'm trying to squirrel out of the arrangements for Thanksgiving that have been made for me. Really tense deal.

It is my longest friend's birthday. I will phone Germany. I want to go Boston Market and get some okay for diabetics food. I do not want to eat deep-fried turkeys with my in-laws and my brother-in-law's girlfriend's family. I do not want to see my brother-in-law again if I can manage it.

And for Christmas, Chicken in Garlic sauce, Spring rolls, Szechaun string beans, maybe a bit of garlic soup and Lo Mein. And three Unix geeks, preferably horny. No presents, just presence. But that was fun.

Um, I don't know how to break this to you, but... you have massively under-estimated the problem. It is December, yes -- December 2039. It's actually a bit chilly today; the weather just isn't what we remember from our childhoods, what with global warming and the farms of Brazil. We had to wind clocks back on older computers last year to avoid wrapping milliseconds, which is why your clock is wonky. Once you upgrade your OS you'll be fine.

I saw the xmas decorations in the stores even before Halloween this year. This is getting ridiculous. I want Halloween decorations at tha point.

There are two things that I excuse for being Christmassy early. One is craft stores, because if you're cross-stitching a stocking, you *really* need the extra time. Of course, if you're a *smart* nut, you buy your stocking patterns at the Dec 26-31 sales with the gift certificates you got for Christmas.

The other is things that "take 6-8 weeks for delivery" (and that one's grudgingly). Having the Christmas ornaments up in some stores when I was taking my kid trick-or-treating at the mall (*before* 10/31) was WAY uncool.
