She doesn't seem to like to be combed or brushed, but I don't try all that often. Maybe she'd get used to it. Surprisingly (for its length), her coat doesn't seem to need any help from me. When I try, she's more interested in sniffing, chewing on, or playing with the comb or brush than allowing it to happen. Occasionally she'll let me do the top of her head or along her spine (where the fur is shorthair short anyhow), but she objects when I try to do her sides (and I haven't tried to get a grooming implement near her belly yet, only fingers) -- and her belly and part of her tail are where she's got the fur of a longhair.

Yes, combing belly fur is a lovely way to get scratched. Sounds like she would get used to it eventually, but she probably would never enjoy it.

Shadow and Merlin are short-hairs, although Merlin has an incredibly thick coat. He gets a good combing weekly which he tolerates. I'm rather glad I don't have to comb Shadow... I'd have no skin left.

Mischief is a long-hair, and she gets combed every day or so. Since she enjoys it, it's not an ordeal unless she's developed a matt in her fur.

Here are pictures of my three. Do you have any pics of Perrine?
