"Clearly this gay marriage must have been what caused the downfall of the ancient Egyptian civilization, since it only lasted for about 2000 years after that." -- [livejournal.com profile] cdybedahl, commenting on an Egyptian tomb of a same-sex couple, 2004-03-24

That is just silly. What about the incestual relationships that were commonly accepted but the ruling class? I have seen no evidance that the sexuality of a nation has ever effected it viability. Hell the Spartans were at the hight of their power when every mans primary love was a fellow man, and women were just someone to bring children in to the world. (they even had to pass a law requireing the men to have sex with the women. It is also part of my arguement the homosexuality isn't as genetic as people would like to think otherwise the nearly 100% homosexual behavior of the Spartans would have been a major abnormality of genetic preferance.)

The Greeks were also a very sexually open culture, in which prostitution was accepted and bisexuality and homosexuality was also accepted. The Romans also followed the Greek example, but they generally considered the ideal sexuality to be Bisexual not homo or hetero, that was until they coverted to Christainity. The one Homosexual ruler was killed not because of his perferance but because he had his boy friend sex play whip him in public... the people felt that was a offense to the office of Ceaser.

But accepting homosexuality has never give strength to a nation either. China never recognized homosexuality in their traditional natural order of life. Japan also look down upon it. In India homosexuality remained in the shadows, although it surely happened the culture never seemed ready to accept it as equal or public as in some other countries.

Some native american tribes and south american tribes saw it a "being touched by the spirits" and gave them a special role in society. But even in this case it was not considered a the norm.

But I digress.... Point is sexuality has seldom given strength or weakened a nation.
