So ... is Drive Like An Idiot Day a state, national, or international holiday? It wasn't on my calendar, so I was not mentally prepared for it yesterday (if I'd realized what day it was, I'd have arranged to stay home).

Really, even with all the craziness and plain ol' poor judgment on the roads 'round hereabouts, yesterday was especially impressive in both magnitude and frequency of idiocy. I haven't decided whether to catalogue it, 'cause hey, a driver-grousing-about-other-drivers rant, not the easiest thing to make fresh and entertaining; but it was surprisingly awful out there.

Fortunately the holiday had ended by the time I drove home in the wee hours of this morning. I'd mark it on my calendar as a day not to drive next year, but I don't know whether to mark 12 February or the second Saturday in February. (Actually, I'm thinking it's probably more of an "at random intervals" thing ... but how do I get on the announcement list without having to promise to participate?)

Easy: encourage all your friends to make every day "Drive Like an Idiot Day". Then the timing will be predictable, and you can avoid it.

It was Charles Darwin's birthday, if that helps any.

That makes an awfully scary kind of sense. Ouch.

If it reassures you, I didn't go anywhere or say much. What were you up to?

Went to Wheaton to pick up hand-me-down hardware that's going to be very useful, then to Bowie to help my brother prepare for a trigonometry test. Wound up spending much longer than planned on the math.

I was up in Wheaton too yesterday (Noggins hair salon), although I was walking so did not notice any of the traffic. One person walked in and asked what was going on in Wheaton that day and was told it was always like that on Saturday. Across the street someone fell a few feet (I assume she was getting out of a car at the time) because of a missing railing ... I guess Murphy was just having fun in Wheaton yesterday!

[livejournal.com profile] fizzygeek had also noticed, and was amused to find out she wasn't
the only one.
