Who? Me? It's probably not what I meant... but when you run against a Republican as a Republican - the Republicans win.
I'll be honest - I'm an ex-Republican. Really. I believe in individual liberty and fiscal responsibility. Government was there to protect the freedom of the individual and not interfere with it. I also believe in the concept that there are things that belong to *all* of us - water and air do not belong to anyone person or group and must remain available to all. These too, must be protected for individuals to be free.
But the Republican party has shifted greatly since the days of Gerald Ford. Yeah, yeah - I'm *that* old. Fiscally conservative but socially liberal - that's for me! But bans on gay marriage? Faith based instead of reality based science? Granting corporations more rights than individuals? Bible pounding instead of Reason? What the fuck is this? It's Un-American to deny people their Creator given rights - no matter what race, creed, sexual orientation, etc. And instead of transparent, minimalistic government we have a secret, corporate based police state that want to march across the world with _military_ force with the excuse that they want to spread freedom - yet they want to deny freedom to select groups? Foreign and domestic policies based on lies, lies, lies? This is not what I signed on for.
And what the hell is wrong with forming labor unions?
I finally left. The Democratic party seemed closer to my own philosophy than any other party.
Perhaps I'm more Green than Democratic - maybe more Libertarian, maybe not. I'm complex. My opinions may change as I gather more information - more evidence about what's going on. I am sick of this incarnation of the Republican party and would love to see it taken down. It's too late for it to be rescued from the inside - it's rotten to the core. It has slid over a period of decades into it's present state and will take decades for it to released from the grip of the militaristic, Holy-Than-Thou scoundrels that now lead the party.
