Yesterday evening I spoke to one of the guys working next door. Either he was sincerely apologetic for having failed to consider that there might be someone sleeping nearby, or he's had a lot of practice playing the "mollify the neighbours after all the noise has been made already" game. Either way, he said the really loud stuff was already done, and that they'd try to keep it relatively quiet until nine. Well this morning there was tapping and thumping already going on when I woke on my own, but it seemed muffled, perhaps in parts of the house not right next to the shared wall. About a quarter past nine, the serious banging started up. And none of it so far has been as loud as that first hour and a half yesterday (and the loudest bits don't seem quite so bad when I'm not trying to sleep). So the goal of yesterdays conversation was accomplished.

Unfortunately, I woke due to pain, not from feeling caught up on sleep, but I got (for a change) what would have been a decent single night's sleep if I hadn't already been running on such a sleep deficit. I'll probably want a nap before rehearsal tonight.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] garnet_rattler fished the broken-off key out of my front door lock. *whew*

And just now I got to watch something amusing ... a loud bang from next door startled Perrine, and she looked that direction, but when I spoke to her, saying, "It's okay, don't worry," her head snapped around to look at me while her ears stayed pointed at the wall. The combination of "I'm facing you because you spoke but my ears are pointed thataway" and the speed of the motion of her head with her ears seeming to be left behind made me laugh.

I'm really glad that the worst of the noise has stopped, and that the construction folks are working in a different part of the house. I like your description of Perrine - that's cute :)

Perrine is a stunning feline. She is almost canine in some ways. I am used to this crossover. Poodle raised by cat. They're sleeping together at my hip. I too am glad the racket's damped down.
