My cat's orange fur is not quite short, but definitely not long. I once wanted to spin just a little of it for two cross stitches ("eyes") in a small cross-stitch project. I am a fairly experienced spinner, and I had to mix it with white angora to get it to spin at all. I was totally amazed how hard it was to spin cat hair. I tried a wheel, then 2-3 different types of spindles, until I found something that would at least work with the angora mixed in.
No beginner spinner should even consider cat hair.
