Seeing wagon wheels on television that appear to be rotating the wrong way for the direction of travel just kind of slightly amuses me. But when the same thing happens with tank treads, it bugs me. I do not know why.

Bugs you that it happens or that you don't know why it happens?
I notice it in car commercials.

Oh I know why. (There was a "... because of the frame rate ..." that was in my head when I wrote that, but somehow didn't make it from head to fingers). It's just that for some reason it bugs me more with treads than with spokes.

"Oh, look! That tank is doing the 'moonwalk'!"

Hmm. Now I'm imagining a wagon moving at just the right speed for the wheels to appear not to turn at all on television, and I think that would make me twitch ...

The backward running wheels sometimes makes me twitch, it depends on my state of mind. It is pretty weird.

Maybe you just aren't all that fond of tanks.

Nah. In real life I'd rather have to deal with a bunch of wagons showing up than a bunch of tanks (I actually got stuck in traffic behind a wagon train once!), but in movies, tanks are more fun than wagons. Um, and of course when imagining having the tanks on my side.

I get the same deal with my washing machine. At some point in spin, the holes reverse direction. I know I should be used to it, but it does still make me twitch. And yes, I do wonder whether I could make the bloody little bastards behave consistently or stand still.
