"In August, there should be a 'walk on eggshells' day, where you go out of your way to avoid offending people. In September, there should be a 'say what you feel' day, where it's universally accepted that no one take any of it personally. Then afterward, there would be a poll about which day felt better." -- Linda Holthaus, 2003-07-22 (2nd comment)

It's also possible that I Googled something else she'd written on your site, and found it elsewhere attributed to her full name by someone who already knew it ... but I wouldn't have taken the trouble to do anything any more stalkerish than that, and probably didn't even bother to do that much -- I do like to attribute quotes as correctly as possible (the more so if I'm also submitting them to the Quotationoftheday mailing list, whose editor doesn't seem to like to post quotes attached only to online handles), but I don't have time to do a whole lot of sleuthing -- especially since many will lead to dead ends anyhow -- so I just use the handle attached to the quote where I found it unless getting a full name is very easy (like, fewer than three clicks away). Actually, I think I've now spent more time just now trying to figure out how I found her name, than I spent finding it in the first place. You said you're not upset or concerned, but I figured I owe you the most accurate answer I can give, as incomplete as that turns out to be.
I don't see her last name visible on her user info page now, so if there was a bug exposing her name then, it must have been repaired since.
I'm sorry I can't give you a more definite answer than that, but it wasn't a detail that stuck in my brain for two years. (Or longer. I don't remember how much earlier I added the quote to my QotD queue; I've a vague recollection that this one sat in the queue several months before it got posted.)
It's not my intent to violate someone's privacy (so even if I did have the time and energy, I wouldn't go all stalker to find the real name of someone who made it hard to find); I assume that someone who links their handle to a site showing their real name (again: if I'm right about that being how I found Linda's name) isn't trying to hide their name...
... but if Linda would prefer that I remove her last name from this LJ entry, I will do so. I'm not sure how much good that'll do after so long (who knows how many places it's been archived or cached?), but if she cares, I'll change the attribution as she requests. If she's no more upset about it than you are, then I'm inclined to leave it as is. If you contact her about this (to check up on the scenario I described in my first paragraph, for example), please pass along my @livejournal.com address to her in case she wishes to request that I change the attribution.
No biggie
...and by the way
