Just woke from an unsettling and extremely violent but fortunately not bloody dream in which an ex-girlfriend stole a tank and drove around a huge department store, firing a few rounds. Not much left of the store or its inventory but roof and exterior walls. Much screaming, even more running away and cursing. The start of the dream is fuzzy, and involved someone telling someone else they were overreacting, and attempts by me and others (apparently we'd been shopping with a group of friends) to talk her out of doing anything rash; the middle was mostly the expected loud noises and racks of clothes getting smashed and shredded under the tank's treads and glass breaking and people running away, all of which went on for a very long time. I'm not sure how I got her out of the tank, but the dream ended with my restraining her and half-carrying/half-pushing her outside where I was confused by the absence of police and fire department response, waiting a few minutes for the first fire trucks and ambulances to arrive, and asking the driver of the first ambulance on the scene to take her. She was calm in my grasp until I said the words "mental exam", and then she struggled mightily and it was all I could do to hold on until three guys twice my size came out of the ambulance to take over and strap her to a stretcher. I remember squeezing her as hard as I could to keep her from getting away, and worrying about my arm across her chest getting too close to her throat as she struggled because I was afraid of choking her. I remember how my chest and arms felt as we struggled. I woke up as the ambulance drove away, trying to remember whether I'd told the medics that she had been the one driving the tank, and looking for a police officer.

Thinking back on the images, even with the huge plate glass windows at the front of the store, there was way too much broken glass underfoot at the end for the amount of glass in the place at the beginning.

This was not the most restful nap I've had, but at least I woke up less dizzy.
